A new competition on standard housing has been launched by the Russian Ministry of Construction and DOM.RF. The operator of the contest is Strelka KB.
The aim of the Open International Architecture Competition for Alternative Layout Design in Standard Housing is to create comfortable living environments for Russian citizens. It will challenge contestants to design planning layouts for five apartments of a medium size and five apartments of a large size, for three out of four proposed building types.
Applications opened on May 18 at dom-competition.ru/en.
The contest follows the Open International Competition for Standard Housing and Residential Development Concept Design, also operated by Strelka KB, which offered a new vision for the future of Russian housing. This time the focus shifts from the design of blocks and neighborhoods to the design of apartments, their future tenants, and their needs.
The designed spaces should range from 20m² studios to about 100m² four-room apartments. The task is to develop a line of apartments; for example, a two-room apartment will be presented in small, medium, and large versions with an area of 60, 65, and 70m², respectively.
A popular vote will determine which contestants make it to the second round. Finalists will receive one million rubles to finalize their concepts, taking into account the recommendations of the jury. Up to 20 winning projects will receive between one and two million rubles (about €29,200- €14,600).
